To set up a consultation, please simply phone us on 01738 812319. We'll take a few details and check up on your actual requirements, discuss the procedure and costs and set up an appointment which is convenient for you and your family - this can be during the day, evening or at the weekends.
A consultation usually takes place in your own home (see below) and lasts for about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. During this time we will discuss your pet's problems and devise a behaviour modification program which may consist of several stages, and make a start at the appropriate parts of the program. The program can take anything from a few days to several months and may require only a little, or sometimes, a significant amount of work for you and your family.
Our approach is Holistic! There is no better word for it! We look at all aspects of your dogs life including physical health (in association with your vet), to ensure that we cover all potential causes of the problem and get right to it's root. Generally, the first half of the consult is about analysing the problem - we ask lots of questions and so do you! The second part of the consult pulls together the behaviour modification program, and depending on circumstances we usually make a start at some aspects of the program during the consult.
After the consultation, you will receive a written report, and you are free to call or email us for ongoing support. Usually one or two phone calls is sufficient to clarify anything or answer subsequent questions. Backup notes on the elements of the program are also provided as needed.
Our approach is looking at your dog from an emotional stand point - what makes him tick, what motivates him (rightly or wrongly), and what we can do to change his perception of things - and make him therefore want to change the way he behaves.
We will not ask you to ignore your dog or eat out your dogs bowl! We do not use choke chains or electric collars! And, we will not ask you to do anything that you don't fully and completely understand - no magic! no working simply on trust! We are ofcourse happy to answer any of your questions on the various methods of training and behaviour work. All the conflicting advice can be very confusing sometimes.
Pawsability works with your vet to ensure that a fully holistic approach is taken. Involving your vet also ensures that they are satisfied that your pet's behaviour is not due to some clinical problem, and that they are happy for the things to proceed on a behavioural basis.
